Acid Reflux

Alright, if you didn't know before, Jamie suffers with Acid Reflux. If you don't know what that is, it's basically when the stomach acid doesn't stay in the stomach, but comes up and burns your throat. Needless to say it is very annoying and can be quite painful. This has caused him to be very fussy and made him spit up almost everything he ate it seemed. His Pediatrician prescribed him Zantac, and it helped a bit. But three weeks later, it seemed we were back to square one. So last week, while we were staying in Hurricane, Mom gave us the idea of yogurt. He is a little young for solids, but he did great.
The yogurt helped a lot. He was still fussy and cried a lot, but he didn't scream out in pain like he did before. It seemed to coat his throat so the acid didn't burn so bad. Thanks Mom.
So I took him to see his Pediatrician yesterday to get him some serious help, Zantac just wasn't cutting it anymore. She gave us a miracle pill. YAY!!! Today was day one and he did great. He didn't spit up nearly so much. I could lay him on the couch and play with him without him screaming. It was wonderful. He seems happy now. :) Hopefully it continues to work. His doctor also told us that his overall health has not been effected by this. He has gained a total of 4 pounds. When we left the hospital, he weighed 6lb, 7oz. He now weighs 10 lb, 7 oz. And he's grown a few inches as well.
Hanna and Mom have been a great help and support while Jason has been away. Thank you both tons. We love you.

  2. Amber's boy Colby had acid reflux really bad as a baby too. she just had to keep him upright most the time. He basically slept in the swing for his first several months. I think he was on Zantac too!
I guess that it's good that yogurt helped...I've just always heard that babies can't digest dairy and shouldn't have it until age 1. So if you continue using it, I'd run it by your pediatrician to make sure it's ok by him.
He is sure cute- can't wait to see him again!
